| ABOUT LUCENA
CITY, QUEZON PROVINCE | |
Lucena City, the financial, commercial and educational center of the Tagalog-speaking
province of Quezon, occupies an area of 9,115 hectares of flat and slightly rolling
terrain, sharing boundaries with the towns of Sariaya (northwest), Pagbilao (E),
Tayabas (N) and Tayabas Bay (S). The city is traversed by two big rivers, the
Iyam River and Dumacaa River and several smaller tributaries that drain the water
from the southern side of Mt. Banahaw and eventually empty it into the bay. The
economic contribution of Lucena is primarily agricultural and agro-industrial
production -- being a major producer of coconut and copra, rice and a variety
of fruits, vegetables and processed and non-processed poultry and meat products.
The Dalahican Fishing Port is a major fishing center from where good quality fish
and other marine products from within the rich fishing waters of Quezon and other
provinces like Bicol, Marinduque and Palawan are collected and later brought to
Manila by land. |
